I decided that my Sunday project was going to getting all my patterns in various document folders to keep them in order. I have some binders/folders on order to further organise them into by category.
This should, in theory, mean I have the various patterns for tracing all in a row and while they will not be what I use immediately, they will be there if I need to trace a new pattern.
I also now have hanging pattern … things. (I’m not that great on knowing what things are called. You should see – no wait, please don’t – my search history trying to find things. However, I will always remember what a sex bolt is.) This will help me organise my traced patterns, particularly the ones that are my go-tos.
I also have a now empty hanging file folder container that might be where the previous tracings go.
My plan for the binders is to have the following categories:
– Loungewear (including pyjamas)
– Tops (blouses, tees, cardigans)
– Pants & Shorts
– Skirts
– Dresses (even if they can have the skirt done as a separate)
– Undergarments (bras, underwear, long underwear, menstrual pads)
– Outerwear (jackets, rain pants, snow pants, etc.)
– Utility wear (aprons)
– Accessories (bags, insulin pump carriers)
Once that’s done, then I know where I need to go for the pattern to trace out. I’ll also throw in a sticky note to create a table of contents for each binder.
Having that in a bit more order will make my sewing prep easier. My least favourite part of a sewing project is doing the tracing and cutting out of the pattern and fabric. I just wanna have it all ready to sit down and sew!
Also, for the record, I’m horrible at macro-organising. I am much happier doing micro-organizing. I’m not sure if that’s an ADHD thing or not, but I feel like a lot of us tend towards the small scale. (For those who are not familiar, here’s a link on Micro vs Macro Organising.)
Anything I missed? What would your pattern setup look like?
@musings I just did mine, they were getting out of hand. Thanks for the picture, I’ve often wondered how people organise all their pdf patterns!
